Things to do before the furniture removal company arrives

Planning a move, no matter the distance, can be a stressful undertaking. However, the moving process can be simple and quick when done right. By preparing ahead you will ensure your whole move is smooth and successful. When dealing with a furniture moving company there are some things you can do to make their process and interaction with you easier.

Preparing for the move
This is the time to purge and simplify. Before you pack up everything, go through and sort into four categories; trash, garage sale, donate, and keep. If it is broken or torn, trash it. Have a garage sale for items you don't want or need. Donate items that you cannot sell. Then you are ready to pack your belongings.

Think about the space you are moving into. Imagine the best way to arrange your furniture in it. Also, take note of what room items will go in and what items are not needed right away. This way you can direct the unloading process.

When scheduling your moving date, choose and hire your furniture moving company as far in advanced as possible to have a a greater chance of availability. Although moving companies are ready for last minute moves as well.

Packing and preparing items being taken by the furniture moving company
The more you have prepared the smoother the process will go when your furniture moving company shows up. This also reduces confusion and gets the pick-up going faster.
  • Take any staples out of boxes before you pack them. They can scratch surfaces.
  • Buy plenty of packing tape. Reinforcing boxes means they won't open in transit.
  • Don't leave all your packing for the last minute. If you are behind in packing it will delay the movers.
  • Try to make sure that all boxes and containers are stacked neatly around the walls. Leave them room to maneuver.
  • Take inventory of all the items being handled by the furniture moving company.
  • Have a good and simple labeling system. Label the top and sides.
  • Make sure drawer and filing cabinets are empty.

Preparing for the furniture moving company
When the furniture moving company shows up the day of the move they will be able to move quickly and efficiently if you are ready for them. Think about the process and what obstacles they may run into. If you work out a few of these items, they will be able to move faster.
  • Plan where your movers can park to load and unload.
  • Let them know if you have a piano. These can be difficult to move and require equipment.
  • Unplug electronics an hour before so they are cool.
  • Tell movers which boxes are fragile. They can take extra care if you warn them in advance.
  • Make sure someone is at your new home to tell the movers where to unload stuff.

You can make this, and all your other tasks into a check list to keep track of everything during the entire process. This will make the moving and the preparation beforehand a little less stressful.
